How did a meteor kill all the dinosaurs without destroying Earth?

I know this is a lame question but, how could a meteor kill all dinosaurs without destroying earth,wouldnt it leave a HUGE crater in earth,and how did the damage get to the whole 360degrees of the planet?Radiation?it just seems like if a meteor was that powerful it wouldve tooken off a huge chunk of the planet
